Visit our sister subreddit: r/TrueNAS Helpful Links anyway, if I now select MKV format and encode with h265, it works.FreeNAS is now TrueNAS CORE: Announcement It is strange that selection of file format influence video codec, but. Since I used by default MP4, all my videos made by Handbrake were problematic. While I could not find any direct way to select what codec Handbrake use (hvc1 vs HEVC) when h265 is selected, I found that if I choose container format MKV then Handbrake use HEVC codec, and when MP4 is chosen then Handbrake use hvc1 codec. By "works" I mean it plays h265 video from Twonky on LG TV from 2018 - it still does not play on Samsung TV from 2011 and it still does not have thumbnail on any TV ( and I managed to make thumbnails for mp4 and wmv work on Twonky for non-h265 videos ). But when video has 'V_MPEGH/ISO/HEVC' codec for h265, then it works. So far it seems that problem is in video codec 'hvc1' - when video has hvc1 for h265, Twonky does not work. my old 2011 LG smart TV does not play HEVC) I re encode lots of stuff in handbrake, and haven't found anything that doesn't work (depending on the player that is of course. I would try it out, but I do not know if it will overwrite my current 8.2, which would not be good in case that even 8.5.1 does not work for me and I need to go back to 8.2ĭoes anyone knows if Twonky 8.2 (supposedly one that came with free licence on my QNAP 459 way back, before QNAP had their own DLNA server ) can work in parallel with above Twonky 8.5.1 ( which is version from Twonky and not from QNAP ) ? In other words, does Twonky 8.5.1 use same folders and config files as 8.2 ? On the other hand, I found Twonky 8.5.1 in QNAP Club for TS-459 Pro+ (probably from this link viewtopic.php?f=320&t=141525&sid=b1ea68. But I found Twonky version integrated with QNAP ( one installed from same panel as QNAPs own DLNA server), and it is 8.2.1 - so I will try that one. It turns out I could not find independent version of Twonky on my TS-419P (firmware 4.3.3 ), neither in standard QNAP store, nor in QNAP Club. )?Ģ) Alternatively, Is it possible to remove all those unnecessary folder views from Plex ?īut I also have TS-419P, which is older box than TS-459 Pro+ but from some reason (probably because it is ARM) is getting newer firmware versions (4.3.x), so I will try to see what version of Twonky I can get there. So my questions (including original one from top of post) are:ġ) Does Twonky support streaming of h265/x265/HEVC encoded videos, and what is needed (some version later than mine or. ![]() Regarding Twonky and h265, I suspect that it is trying to transcode those h265 videos instead of just passing then 'directly' to player ( I guess Plex does that direct passing) - but that is just guessing. Twonky also had those, but for Twonky it is possible to customize views via SSH in config files - but for Plex I could not find any way to do it. those players CAN play exactly same videos from some other DLNA server, like Plex - I tried with default setting on Plex, where transcoding is set to 'auto' and 'direct' play, which basically means no transcoding if device can support format => proving that other DLNA servers CAN support h265īefore someone suggests switching to Plex (since it does support h265, and it even support thumbnails for mp4), it unfortunatelly does NOT support leaving only 'by Folder' view - on all players it shows dozens(!) of 'views' as different folders like 'All Videos','Latest videos','By Genre','By Year','Unwatched'. those players CAN play exactly same h265 videos from local file : on Windows Media from local disk, on LG player from USB ( and then USB selected as source) => proving that those players support playing h265 format multiple players can NOT play h265 encoded video from Twonky (they all play h264, but not h265) : LG TV DLNA player (newest model, a9 cpu etc, Twonky selected as source.), Samsung TV (model 2011) media/dlna player, Windows 10 Media Player => indicating that it is not DLNA player problem, but Twonky problem Things that I tried related to streaming h265: I have used Twonky for a long time, and it works great - except for two problems :Ī) it can not create thumbnails for mp4 videos (only create thumbnails for wmv videos, but it can play mp4 videos, including h264 )ī) it can not play h265 encoded videos at all ![]() I use Twonky Server 8.2 on TS-459 Pro+ ( firmware 4.2.6 ). Does Twonky support streaming of h265/x265/HEVC encoded videos?
